Machinery Magazine - Britain 1930's
I went to the Ballan Great Vintage Rally on the weekend and one of the exhibitors had a selection of old paperwork that had been saved from going to the tip when the old Ronaldson Tippett factory had been cleared out. Among the paperwork was a pile of Machinery magazines, a periodical dedicated to engineering machinery printed by the Machinery Publishing Co Ltd of London so I bought a few copies. The magazine, from the 1930's, is basically full of advertising for British machine tool companies along with articles on innovations, practices and stats from the industry.
Some folks on here might be interested in these so here's a few scans of some of the contents.
Cheers,
Greg.

I have the december 1928 edition, it is pretty interesting reading.
On another note the job in the Pearn-richards borer (pic 3 post 1) is the mainframe of a symons 4 1/4' cone crusher, and they are boring the outer location diameter for the countershaft box. That casting weighs about 4.5T not 10T. I know all this because i am currently rebuilding one at work.

Perhaps they’re quoting the weight of the assembled crusher rather than just the housing in question. Makes it sound more impressive with a bit of plausible deniability on the facts.
I always thought the Dixon was a Pommy design until I saw this.
I like the sound of the Boehringer hydraulic drive lathe in the Leipzig fair article, one of them would look nice next to the Thiel.

Parkson
I have one of the same Parkson universal mills . Unfortunately I Don't have the dividing head or the gear set for the helical gear cutting function. The machine is in fair condition, it is well well used and it looks to be a wartime made one.
