Default W F & J BARNES Co Drilling machine with well used (abused) table

I am a member of the local historical society in Collinsville, Qld who are the trustees and caretakers of the Scottville BCCM No1 mine site at Scottville a small town a few kilometres from Collinsville. This mine started in 1918 and closed in 1964 when a new underground mine was opened by the company a few Kms away. The No1 mine was operated by steam powered machinery including three triple expansion engines driving alternators for onsite power for above ground operations including the workshop and administration buildings. The new mine was started in 1962 as an electric powered mine so most on the steam machinery was left at the No1 mine site. However much of the smaller machinery was removed or sold and the site used for storage and scavenging for materials by No2 mine personnel as it was still on the mining lease. In recent years the No1 site was excised from the mining lease and transferred to the society after a process of more than ten years. This drill press is the only piece of original machinery left in the workshop and looking at the table it can be assumed it had a hard working life. The society does not have a web site but has a FB page called "The Collinsville Scottville & District Historical Society Inc" for anyone interested. This FB page also features other activities of the society.Barns Co drilling machine2.jpgBarns Co drilling machine8.jpgBarns Co drilling machine4.jpgBarns Co drilling machine5.jpg

Thats a hell of drill press and will look pretty darn good if your society chooses to refurb it.

The table has had a lot of tin termites on or in it but I guess for the number of holes drilled with the machine it is to be expected given who may have been using it in its latter stages.

Thanks for posting the photos and I wish you and the Society every success in bring the old girl up to scratch.

    Grahame
