Mystery Object from Old Timber Mill
Can anyone please recognise the object in attached photos?
Car keys give size.
Appears to be cast iron given the observed corrosion resistance and weight.
It is familiar to me, but I just cannot recall.
I am curious.
It was found at the site of the old Manumbar Timber Mill near Gallangowan via Jimna QLD.
A Google "image search" returns nothing similar.
The mill had a steam engine, and generator, and dates from 1936 or earlier.
Could it be a bearing holder or spacer for a roller?
And if you ever visit this site, beware - "black soil" in parts of the approach road.

Hi mike,
Just a guesstimate, from me...
Recently I packed away a pair of lineshaft pulleys, and they have similar pairs of cast iron blocks that act as the hub, between the clamping spokes of the pulley and shaft it is mounted on. Hope that helps. A .'Waratah' spring hammer by Hands & Scott c.1911- 20, 'Duffy, Todd & Williams' spring hammer c.1920, Premo lathe- 1953, Premo filing machine.
