    I think your calculations are correct for your 5 TPI screw.
    1rev = 0.2"
    500 div per rev = 0.0004"/division
    5 Div =0.002"

    I think pipeclay's results are for a 5mm leadscrew?

    Default Holbrook

    I have a Holbrook T13 of 1940's era. Its similar in concept to the Hendey . I picked up these old machines when the market for old used lathes was in a slump.... few hundred bucks for the Holbrook.

    Default Noises

    The Hendey 12 speed geared headstock is rather noisy , I suspect it has some dud bearings .I removed the top cover and poked around a magnet in the oil trough, picked up some small metal fragments , nothing too bad Could not find any obvious loose parts or worn gears or shafts . But with the gears in neutral and spinning the three shafts individually, this test reveals the bearings have that bad bearing 'rumbling' noisy sound .Maybe in its past the lathe has been run for a while without the correct lubricants or low oil.
