Rexman Bull Gear locking pin
Does anyone know what the original retaining set-up was for a Rexman Bull Gear locking pin?
This is an earlier, relatively small flat-belt model.

I am helping a friend get one back into service and this (whatever it was) is missing. The screw to the left of the pin in the following photo has a cross-hole drilled in the head and that indicates perhaps some sort of spring. However, the pin itself has no grooves to locate it halfway out and can be pulled out completely so was it intended to be removed completely for back-gear operation and have something that folded over the back of the pin in normal operation?

Any insight gratefully received.

G'day Ray-s, I have had my Rexman for 55 years and never run it in the back gears for the same reason your friends machine won't run...missing teeth.
However the drive pin on my machine screws in and would have to be removed completely to use the back gears.
Hope that is of use to your friend.

Thanks Robert - that helps confirm what I suspected because I can't see a way to safely hold the pin in a disengaged position.
Yes, there appears to have been destructive attempts to unscrew a very tight chuck backplate with three teeth on the back gear and one on the bull gear AWOL.
The eccentric back gear shaft was also bent from this jiggery pokery.
Both gears are cast iron on this model so I will have a bash at repairing the teeth - I have made a replacement eccentric shaft for the back gear.

The gears may be able to be re ringed if repairs are ineffective.
