Well, I had planned to put more photos up though this forum don’t accept them. Plus my log-in keeps dropping out ?

I haven't struck that issue with Tapatalk yet. Possibly it's part of an app upgrade that I haven't applied.

... like buying a motorbike and not knowing what cc it is. I will have a look-see when I’m next near the machine. As I have an interest in the Brisbane manufactured Mars products I bought the machine mainly as a collectable knowing zero about it.

No idea what Tapatalk is - I’m barely computer literate. My ability to load photos to this site seems to come and go - some days I can, other days I carn’t..

I've found that pics loaded via other sources than the forum, seem to be a hit and miss.
If they come from tapachat or what ever it is, I can't get to see them

No luck with the piccys at this time.

Will be putting the machine into me new shed early next year so will be able to do a bit of a look-see and tidy up of it then. Currently covered in inhibitor and under tarps outside at the moment.

having a machine tarped outside is like having it in a giant plastic bag, the condensation absolutely gets in everywhere. Better to have it under a crude Lean-to exposed to the elements than to have it tarped.

    Agreed.

Before placing tarp I place old tyres over the sharp bits of the machine which reduces the snug fit greenhouse effect a bit. Keep some exposed areas around the base so there is some airflow. Seems to work.

Mars manufacturing must have been very capable at what they did. I did hear their lathes suffered high wear rates from soft cast iron. They also made diesel engines. There is one on youtube.

Part of Mars advertising spell were they used the Meehanite process.

I have though heard mention from others that the lathe ways were a bit soft.

I’ve got a few Mars lathes so I guess a future job is to test the hardness of the ways compared to me Colchester.

Morning @YBAF, what models of Mars lathes - just curious. I have a ‘Great Scott’ - had the bed re-ground.
