    Default FORD lathe

My neighbour has a huge Ford brand lathe , made during ww2 I think. Does anybody have any info on this lathe ? No lead s crew just a plain slotted bar .

Years ago I remember a Ford made lathe on ebay. It was a large hollow spindle lathe with no chuck.

Of course we need pictures or it never happened.

It has flat bed , around 7 tons . Not sure if Ford here could have cast stuff that large but who knows. Gary reckons it was made here as it has features similar to his McPherson made lathe. Its in remarkable good cond. for its age . He restores steam traction engines so a handy tool for him. Will take the pics soon.

A search of Trove shows some post war adverts for Ford lathes and parts.
This ad has 350 cases of Ford lathe parts - https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/a...&searchLimits=

    Hi morrisman,

Is it the same lathe shown in the photo in my link above? It was in Victoria, and the weight is in the same ballpark. There can't be many Ford lathes about that size still surviving. If it's not the same lathe, any chance of getting a photo of it? Just interested to know.

A look-see again at Trove came up with a newspaper report about Oz Ford making lathes...

"...Ford Australia making an ever-increasing range of war materials... lathes for turning shell bodies..."
