    Default Old Big Machinery

Found this somewhere and thought I'd put a link to some old big machinery. There are a few pics of modern stuff but mainly old stuff. Make sure you look hard to see the operator on some of the pics.

    Hope you enjoy this.

For the last two days I've been turning and boring big forgings of 4130 on a Webster and Bennett vertical borer, my 30 minute training included "if the job comes out of the chuck, run! (and yes, it does happen) lol.

I've shovelled quiet a few tonnes of swarf in the last couple of days, ( well most days actually) but the VB throws it the furthest and widest

Yeah, in the opposite direction to the last bloke, who tried to catch the 400kg lump of steel exiting the chuck!!

    "swarf elevator"

I like that, I think that's what I'll call my shovel from now on

I like the way that the equipment had hardly any guarding on them, yet the operators worked very closely to the gears etc. Must have been the days when commonsense was a self taught thing, not like nowdays where no one bothers learning it.
Just recieved an email of damages awarded to people for the most stupid acts, like throwing a soft drink at their spouse and walking away only to slip on the floor where it landed when they threw it.
