    Default New Visby cleanup

I spent some time cleaning up the old Visby lathe . It has had a hard life but still it has some life left in it .

Somebody has been playing with the countershaft mount inside the main base and the two cone pulleys don't line up, they are about 1.5"-2" out of alignment.

The carriage had 60+ years of crud inside it . I found a broken gear , it drives the sliding feed but when I was using this lathe I never noticed a problem with the sliding feed ? The saddle is so heavy, I just managed to lift it off the bed for cleaning ..my poor back . The counter pulley and shaft runs in SKF pillar blocks ? with double row ball bearings that are free to locate themselves , self aligning I think its called

Nice heavy duty lathe I use a engine crane to take the saddle off my lathe, you don't want to stuff your back up.
    Cheers,

Double V is certainly unusual for an AU designed lathe.
Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

    Default Visby

On a visual inspection the bed has some minimal wear at the headstock end but nothing drastic. The saddle V's are very worn - being so heavy, the saddle has worn itself down into the bed , more wear on the apron side. The worn saddle V's doesn't seem to be a problem because this lathe turns accurately !
