Default New to me old grinder.

Someone posted a link to this for sale on Facebook. It was the next suburb over and $50. It seemed the guy was having a lot of issues getting rid of it. As in he had sold it 3 times and no one had come to collect or pay for it. I called the guy and asked it it was too cheeky your to ask it could be delivered. An hour later we were lifting it off his trailer and delivery was free! He was a really nice guy. Used to be a boiler maker and welding instructor at RMIT he got this thrown in when he bought a large radial drill and some other gear from the school. He held on to it with the intention of converting it to 240v and doing it up when his other grinder let out the blue genie, which still hadn't eventuated.

Need to do some research on it and see it I can swap the 3ph motor out.

Yeah nice job on that Bob. Want to come visit Melb few a few days and do mine lol. Plenty of machines and vfd to keep you busy.

I notice your motor is by the same company as the badges for my machine and Andrew OC uses one regularly at his blacksmithy.
Hopefully he can get me some photos of the missing spindle cover when he sees this thread

That's some serious grinding that has gone on with the left hand wheel. Did you get the tool rest, or did that get vaporised like the paint did?

    What are the bearings?

Unfortunately no tool rest for the other side or the arm. The ground down wheel is a actually a wire wheel down to the rims.

G/day DSEL, I have one of those grinders with a linisher on the RHS, I have the tool post bracket and that might be the same as the LHS ? If so you can have it. Likely just needs to be flipped over for the other side.
The cover from memory is a tin plate, if 1mm or less in thickness then we could replicate mine, I have a guilitine and roller.
When I go down the shed later i will measure it and have a look for the rest arm.

DSEL the cover measured 1.15mm (memory !!! i should have wrote it down )
No matter 1mm sheet will be good enough.
The rest arm is a bit rough as it has been broken and brazed at some stage but will clean up and do the job no worries.

Here is some pic's for you, I will pm you my ph no.

I had a nice afternoon with Shed. A got a bit of a look at his toys and we made a duplicate of his spindle cover.
Unfortunately when I got home my machine is smaller doh! The diameter of the radius on mine is much smaller.
Practice makes perfect so I'll have another go at a smaller one. On the bright side the tool rest arm looks like it will fit.

They look the same, but I did say I thought your wheel guards looked bigger when I stood next to it.
