    Default Vintage Parken Belt Linisher

I'm seeking info on a Vintage Parken Belt Linisher either a 61 or 64 model???

Is there any catalogues or manuals floating around??

I accidentally bought one today, been admiring it for ages………..This is what happens when you make a silly offer on price and they accept it...…now just have to figure out how to move it from Bayswater to Lilydale.

    parken_belt_linisher_3.jpg

In useable and running condition (3ph, so needs a VFD which I will put up the pole to keep away from dust) But there are some parts missing and some small repairs needed.
As circled the bottom cast lug on the motor mount is broken. This is the one that has a tapped hole for I assume a locking screw.
The cast tilt adjustment knob has a few bumps broken off.

If you look at the side of the platen there is a trunion rocker which is mean't to have something???

More than that I am unsure untill I get it home and go over it properly.

I want to get a scotchbrite belt for it so i can polish the line shaft, and I will us it a fair bit in the smithy and hopefully get some knives ground up on it in the future.

The Green one (mine) is a MK II circa 1960-70 and the 4" wide belt version. The last price list shows this machine at $1680 as new old stock in 2002.

The only other one I could find (below) on google was on the forum:

Ray's is possibly a 1950's, as it has the third arm rather than a platen according to Parken over the phone, although I'm skeptical as other aspects of the design look more modern than mine.. His also has the original cap with built in german switch.

Forgot to mention, The base has a huge spring in it so the pillar can be easily adjusted according to parken. Sounds pretty cool! Will need to obliterate that green paint and find out. Not that I needed an excuse to get rid of the green

A new genuine rubber boot will set me back $49 Might be able to get a motorcycle one from a skinny fork??

Nice find Dale, I love the Parken Linisher, everything is adjustable. I have a VFD on mine, since those pictures were taken, I have been using 3M trizact belts, but after seeing Corin's video of the Noob grinder with blaze belts, I'm now on the lookout for a 96"x2" Norton Blaze Belt to give it a run.

I got a graphite plattern liner from somewhere, that backs the belt, I forget where I got it from, Ewan might know who has them?

I just noticed, the plattern isn't mounted in those photographs, if you want I'll take some more pictures.

Depends on what you want to do but ceramic glass is also a good option for a platen liner, the graphite has give and will wear, the glass stays dead flat. Not that you can get a dead flat surface off a platen anyway.

PS, Ray your workshop was mighty empty back then!

Just a silly question, but "How do you accidentally buy something"?

Ray, I definitely want to go variable speed on this so a CFD is a must. More photos would be much appreciated.

Ray/Stu, Is that just a self adhesive material that you stick to the face of the platen?? Darn the sandpaper man was at the Woodshow yesterday I might have been able to get some.

Ewan, Which is the ceramic vs graphite better for purpose wise. How expensive is the ceramic and where do you get it? The graphite look affordable.

Kryn, I made an offer I thought would be rejected (less than half the asking price) not taking it seriously and when it was accepted the deal was to good to walk away from especially since I have been admiring it since last year. So I didn't actually intend to buy it.

I'm paying a guy in petrol and beer to tow the trailer so I can collect it tomorrow arvo!

    Hi Dale,
You should be able to get it from most glass supply places. Personally i do not like graphite as every time i have used i have worn grooves in it.

I reckon the best way to do a 'deal' is to turn up driving an old banged up ute wearing the best stained tattered work clothes and carrying a sad dog.

Picked up the Linisher today and it's now in sitting in my shed.

Here are a few more photos

Top wheel has been repalced with a 2" wide instead of the original 4"
    DSC_0882.JPG

Bit broken off the knob, thinking to fit a collar between the two motor mounts to support the load due to locking srce breaking out the casting.

No hard work required here to convert to Delta, just move the connectors over.

NIce big and stable steel plate as a under the base, few $$$ worth just there.

Need to source a suitable VFD and some belts.

    Hi Dale,

Check, the belt length, I think it should be 96" If it is I have a couple of trizact belts you can pick up next time you are up this way.

If you happen to spot any 80 grit norton blaze in 96" x 2" let me know.

I see if I can track down some of the blaze belts and let you know.

Don't forget some detail photos of your linisher. Do you have an original table for the platen?
