Default Cheers from Western New York, USA-Canada border on the Niagara river

Hello all. Riley here. Have been mig welding since '94 and blacksmithing since '01. Have worked in mostly industry, welding in factories and on railcars.

Recently retired early due to multiple serious injuries. Night of Valentine's Day 2019 as a pedestrian I was struck by a very drunk driver in an SUV. He left me laying in the road with a fractured skull bleeding into my brain and multiple other serious injuries and away he went, fled the scene. He was caught and went to prison. I went into the trauma ward in a coma for a month and altogether five months in hospital.
Following those festivities came a year and a half of cognitive and physical therapy for a few hours twice a week.

The entire contents of my blacksmith shop went into a storage unit and I have been with relatives while on the mend. This year should see the civil trial wrapping up and me back into my own place and putting together a proper forge once more. Am itching to get my anvil ringing and have a snootful of coal smoke once again. Soon enough.

    Gday Riley,
    Welcome to the MetalWork Forum.

In case you haven't spotted it yet you have landed among a bunch of Aussies and you might find our sense of humour just a bit different.

There a lots of people here from elsewhere on the planet too, but in the main we are Aussies. We might talk about products and vendors and some may be different to what you are used to in the US.

To have a look around our sub forums go to the rectangular box in the top LF cnr that says FORUM and click it.
From there click on the top line of the pulldown menu Forum Home.

Right at the top of the scroll down page there are our Terms of Use- the rules https://metalworkforums.com/f90/t197...terms-tou-read
    Please check those out.

The rest you can peruse at your leisure. We have a blacksmith sub forum in there as well as general metal work, welding and lots of others and encourage our posters to post in the appropriate forums.

Again welcome to the forums. It sounds like you will fit in the mob here. They are a good bunch of blokes.

I sincerely hope being in good company can contribute towards your healing process.

    Grahame

Thank you for that rousing welcome Grahame, makes me feel a pea in a pod. Years ago while in the U.S. Marines I was stationed at Pearl Harbor out in the Pacific for a couple years. We can't have booze aboard our ships but I found when ships from Oz were in port that your ships do! Each had its own bar aboard and drinks were ridiculously cheap. Good times
Divorced now happily ever after since '14 with both daughters now on their own and successfully into their own careers there is nothing holding me back from here on out.

Crikey, what an experience! And there was me complaining about the traffic.

I am glad you are on the mend and happy to hear that you are looking forward to getting dirty. I'm sure a positive attitude helps as much as the medical care.

    Best of luck.

    Riley,
Welcome to the Forum, you will find a bunch of people always willing to assist, or just listen with a sympathetic approach.

I am posting because your location brings back memories, I lived in the Finger Lakes Region for 4 years in the middle 90's, at Elmira.
Travelled several times up through Buffalo, Niagara, Toronto, around Lake Ontario, and along the St Lawrence Seaway.
An absolutely stunning part of Canada/USA, I am jealous as hell !

    Keep well,
    John.
