    Default Hello from Melbourne Victoria

    Hello everyone,

I am just getting back into metalwork after a long break. I picked up a Qualos 5 1/4" lathe last weekend and am looking forward to getting back into the hobby. My first task is to make it a reasonable stand to stiffen things up a bit.

    Welcome.

If your Qualos has the standard curved/cast legs, some cross bracing would help the stability?

(e.g. two bits of angle iron bolted onto tailstock feet, and bolted tight under headstock)

Unfortunately the original legs did not come with it. It is currently sitting on two separate steel lockers made from 3mm sheet metal and rocks around a lot. My plan is to make up a beam style stand to suit my height.

My long term plan is to make a 7.25" gauge live steam engine. In the shorter term I am going to tinker on smaller project from the Harold Hall series to learn more of the craft.
