Hi!
Hi, my name is Jayne from Sydney. I joined this forum hoping to learn a few things about metalworking in general and particularly about restoring, setting up and using an old vintage lathe I recently acquired.

Hi Jayne and welcome to the forum. You have come to a good place to get tips and help in many aspects of lathe ownership and use. If I may suggest, some pictures and a description of your lathe, and any issues that you have with it will assist members to help you. This is a pretty friendly forum and we have members with a wide variety of machines and experience, so feel free to ask and I'm sure that there will be plenty of advice and assistance offered. Cheers,
Rob.

Hi Rob. Thanks for the welcome. I did try starting a thread in the Hercus section with some photos but my post hasn’t shown up. I was using my phone to post the thread. A pop up message appeared when I submitted the post but disappeared before I could read what it said. Is there a restriction on new members starting new threads?

Hi Rob, thanks for the welcome.
I must be doing something wrong, this is my second attempt at replying to your post, the first one didn’t show up.
I have also tried starting a new thread in the Hercus Area with some photos and questions but my post has disappeared. A pop up messaged appeared on my phone when I submitted the reply but didn’t stay on the screen long enough for me to read what it said. Is there a restriction on new members submitting replies and starting new threads?

G'day again Jayne,
Probably not your fault, both your posts are coming up here, sometimes stuff happens (or doesn't happen), and all forums can misbehave and generally not respond as expected. The Moderator of this forum is Grahame Collins and he normally would have chimed in by now, but he may be on holliday or have other more pressing family commitments. I'm fairly certain that unless he manually allows your posts as a new member to include photos, you will be unable to post them and also perhaps to see them (photos) too. When you have made a certain number of posts, this restriction on access is lifted automatically. IIRC, the number of posts that you would need to make is less than ten, maybe as low as 3-5. The rule is there to prevent spammers causing havoc, but Grahame usually manually gives new members full access once he asseses their bonefides, especially if they are asking for any kind of help. There are a fair few Hercus owners on the forum, so you should be able to get any necessary assistance for the asking. Good luck,
Rob

Hi Rob,
I didn’t realise my posts were being auto moderated at first, so I made a new welcome thread. In the meantime my initial replies in this thread became visible. Grahame responded in the other welcome thread explaining what had happened and he also unblocked my post with photos in the Hercus Area, so all is good now. I understand the need to protect the forum from spammers. Sorry for the confusion.
