    Default Yo from Melbourne

    Hi All,

I'm into woodworking and quickly discovered that in order to accurately and efficiently shape timber I need some good skills in terms of metal work.

I've used a grinder and bunch of sharpening stones etc etc for years.

As my obsession with woodworking travels further along the Rabbit hole, I'm learning more about metal and metal working.

    My upcoming goals are:

    - Learn to blacksmith/forge an array of tools (eg. hold fasts, froe, travisher, axe, knife, log dogs, adze, carving chisels, marking knifes, drawknife, large spoon carver, scorp, bark scraper) and eventually parts for sculptures/furniture

    - Make tools like saws from sheet spring steel and a decent bevel gauge out of brass and steel

    - Eventually procure a metal working set up such as a mill, surface grinder, heat treating and forging set up etc

My main reason for joining is to ask advice and support for a couple of operations that I currently don't have equipment to easily and efficiently do. I'm booking forging classes at a blacksmith club shed in Bundoora next year.

Thanks for Neil for hosting these forums!
