G'day fellow metal workers
Looking forward to browsing through and gaining more knowledge. I mess around with metal on vehicles and do some general fabrication. At present I'm moving my interests to restoring and repurposing things while maintaining original patina.

Gidday Wombat!
How is your sheetmetal fab? Oxy brazing, or MIG welding?

Learned oxy 35 years ago. Haven't had bottles for 20. Can still do it when needed. Last few years have MIGed most things. Haven't done much panel welding for the last couple of years, work keeps getting in the way of personal projects. Have 8 cars (all mine and the boss lady's), that need attention in the yard and another I'm getting in the next couple of weeks so hope I can get started soon.
Most of my fab work recently has been parts for customer fences or sheds that need tlc or additions.
Have started recently restoring, repurposing or reutilizing old bits to make new items...
Bed ends and an old couch frame to make a rustic orchids stand. Refurbing a 80 year old gate to keep roos out of a station house yard. Another one of those on the bench at the moment.
Even though I started welding through school in the 80's, TAFE in other courses in the 90s and self education ever since, I am at present doing basic and intermediate as parts of a fabrication course that TAFE run at our local high school. This has taken my average skills to a much higher level and added aluminium welding with MIG and TIG into my skill set.
This is helping me reskill so I can redirect my business over the next few years and drop off some of the jobs I don't want and the ones my body is struggling to handle.
If anyone is in my area and wants to improve their welding, our TAFE needs numbers to keep the course going...

I'll start showing some of my projects in the future. Always good to get opinions.

Welcome to a TOP FORUM. How long have you lived in Peterborough? Asking as my Partners brother lived there till late 2006.

Bought my house in 97 but worked away till 2011 when I finally decided to use it as a home rather than a storage site. Now it looked more like a tinkers yard!
Probably would know him, I've been in the area for nearly 30 years. You know SA, only one degree of separation here! 😉

Will throw up some project photos in a new thread soon. Will be a good way to keep track of what I'm doing.
