Default Non technical person who needs help :)

    Hi Everyone,

So my name is Marion and I know absolutely nothing about machining, which I regret I might add.
My father recently passed away, he was a Toolmaker, Electrical Engineer and so much more.
I have been given the daunting task of selling all his machines and tools etc which is not an easy thing to do
when I don't know what I'm selling. I did however recently sell a surface grinder and it was the buyers
suggestion that I register and join this forum. Thank you James.

So I've had a bit of a look at the different areas of this forum and I've found the right place to go to sell
things (Marketplace-Metalwork, Machinery etc) but I have a lot of things I can't find on Google, in fact I
don't know what some things are called. So I'm really hoping someone may be able to help me.
If I post a photo in Metalwork Forum - Metalwork General would that be the right place.

The night is young so I may just give this a go now and if I'm in the wrong forum, please just let me know.

    Thank you
    Marion

Yes can't see why anyone would object, just call it ( what is it ), alternatively there are members around your area that may be able to visit and let you know what items may be, or at least steer you in the right direction.

Welcome Marion to a Top Forum, and SORRY for your loss. I'm certain you'll get some assistance, whether it be a local that is able to drop in or via the photos, they may even be able to give an approximate value on the items.

    Hello Marion,

Sorry for your loss, and the situation that you now have of clearing your fathers workshop without much knowledge of the contents, or what accessories belong to particular machines etc.

I see that you are located in Windsor, but I know of two Windsor's, suburban Melbourne and outer western Sydney. There may be others that I am not aware of. I suggest that you edit your profile to include the state you live in, and you may be able to establish contact with someone local who can assist you with identifying and matching equipment.

You may get some help by posting pictures to the forum for ID, but if there are multiples of different types of machine with different sizes, the ID may not indicate which machine an accessory belongs with, whereas someone with the background may be able to instinctively match accessories to their parent machines. Machines with a decent compliment of accessories and tooling are generally worth more and are more attractive to buyers than a bare machine, and you don't get left with a lot of unmatched accessories that are valuable to someone who knows what they are for, but are of little value in jumbled boxes without matching parent machines.

I believe that the members will be willing to help as best they can to ID stuff, and may be interested in purchasing equipment at prices that are fair for both your family and the members concerned. Welcome to the forum, but it is a pity that it is in such sad circumstances.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
