Default G'Day from Sunny Somerset England

Well - Somerset has been sunny these past 3 weeks whilst we self-isolate, which has made a very pleasant change.

Only came across this website because I was directed here by a good mate Down Under, goes by the user name on here of Don @2480, a superb machinist and engineer - see this thread on a Aveling IC Road Roller, great stuff.

I am a retired marine engineer, back in the day when the UK had a decent merchant navy, with fond memories of Oz having first visited back in 1964; sadly not been back since 1979. Since leaving the sea I worked in the milk, food and horticultural industries as an engineer before retiring.

Having been an engineer all my life I always wanted my own workshop but it was not until retirement I could realise the dream - how often has that been said? Now trying to learn machining on the lathe and mill - even though I've always been in engineering this is a discipline I've never had to learn, other than how to operate a lathe, so things like work holding, machining techniques, machining sequences etc are a whole new engineering world; great stuff, keeps the little grey cells ticking over - too busy now ever to go to work, the tale of retired folk all over.

Looking forward to learning and reading interesting stuff on this forum, from what I have see so far there is a lot to see!

    Thanks old1955 and Grahame.

Don - I know from personal experience a load of great stuff is done in Oz, that's why I loved it, that and it's attitude to life! So you want to see progress on the 3 cylinder radial - so no pressure then eh?
