Always learning and curious.
Hello to yall,
My name is John, age 61 and I'm living in a small town called Elburg in the Netherlands.
After working for more than 30 years as a woodworker, I started 8 years ago as a metal worker.
I started to learn how to weld and working with metal working tools, like a Milling machine and the lathe.
I work as a blacksmith at a beautiful, 400 years old Smithy called De Hoefhamer. Forging Iron with a coalfire, is something completely different than working with fine tools like milling machine or lathe. I recommend it everybody to once try to forge.
I hope while wander round here, to learn loads of things and have fun.
Greatings yall
John

Welcome, John!
We have forums here to cover Metalwork, Woodwork, and Blacksmithing (The Smithy).
A few times I have wanted to create something an odd shape, and have been tempted to try Blacksmithing. The idea of beating something into the shape, and them putting it in a lathe or mill to finish it is very appealing. Much stronger than fabricating/welding, and much less wasteful than something like CNC machining.
We'd love to see photos of some of the things you have forged.
