    The black thing behind the chuck - looks like a chuck guard - a standard Hercus accessory?

    That is a standard accessory, they had a couple of different types, there was an interlock type with the micro switch or a plain type as well as a couple of different chuck guards, 1 being cast aluminium and the other perspex.

    I had a look at the lathe before it was advertised and it is good condition overall, just the paint looks a bit crappy but it is a 1977 built lathe.
