    It has a gap in the bed. Never seen that on a Hercus 9" before. Custom or factory special??

    I’ve heard stories of Hercus supplying gapped beds on the odd occasion but I’ve never seen one, and have no idea whether there is any substance to that or not.

    My guess in this particular case is that whatever was chucked in the larger three jaw on the rack needed more clearance. Automotive fly wheels maybe?

    I can't see the gear cover. Very dangerous to run the lathe without that.
