Yes please, I'll put my hand up for a spare.. my understanding is that you can damage that gear if you hit a hole and the shock gets transferred through the drive mechanism, so I'd be thinking that failure is probably inevitable with the plastic becoming brittle over time.

Since we now know these things are worth $1800+ a few spares are a good investment.

Of course, if Pete has them made by morning, I'll go with those....

In other relevant matters, sorry Robbo, you'll have to drive up there yourself ... I was after a matched pair of 160mm Safeway hydraulic milling vises, but they went for a little more than I was prepared to pay, they were still good value at $299 and $279 given that they retail for close to $1000 each.. next times a charm.

Ummm, I don't think you understand the concept of a BIN price - essentially a fixed price purchase - that *converts* to an auction if someone low-balls the BIN price....

Or, perhaps the concept of 'penny wise, pound foolish' that an attempt to save a trivial amount of money can lead to.

I recall an Ebay auction with a BIN price on a Lincoln diesel welder-generator set. Apparently in excellent condition, opening bid of $650, BIN $750. Some idiot tried to low-ball it. In the end it went for over $2000.

I was watching it and laughing at the stupidity. Had I wanted it, I'd have paid the $750 and taken it home.

Oh well, perhaps you'll learn. After you master that lesson, you can move on to the concept of *not* telling your competition what you're going to do so that they've got an opportunity to do it to you.

But what would I know - one of my close friends is a retired scrap metal dealer and spent more time at live auctions than everyone here combined, I expect. What I know, I learnt from a master. However, I can't see any good reason to help my potential competition, so I'll just leave it there.

You psychic Pete? I am...no wait, that psychotic i'm thinking off

The plate went for $409, a good purchase if it is in good condition.

Maybe you should have looked closer...there is only one bidder...he must have bidded then upped his max bid. If your so far above and beyond us all then why are you here......maybe its time to transcend onto another plane of existence.

I think Matt is owed an apologie, i'm sick of you talking down to anyone you disagree with.

Good advice, perhaps we could also get back to the topic of this thread, which is stuff for sale on Ebay, not a tutorial on how to bid or not to bid on Ebay, or indeed who is going to bid on what and when and how much and..............

Maybe the first bidder only had $650 to spend?
Maybe he knew of other one for $700?
Maybe he only wanted one part of it and thought $750 for that part was to much?
Maybe the seller got someone else to put a bid on for him?
Maybe it was worth $650 as scrap?
Maybe he had to five 4 hours to pick it up?
    Don't know, dont care.
If someone wants to bid $650 then they are free to do so. If you dont want to roll the dice thats up to you. Though maybe some would question the stupidity of possibly paying more than you had to. Still thats your call.

One wonders what would happen in "the greatest forum in the world" if one was to wander into a thread knowing it had admin approvel and have a little hissy fit? Then having been asked nicely by a mod to play nice choosen to go on with it?

It's late, and I am tired, but for some reason your phrasing reminded me of the game of Risk...Colonel Mustard... bedroom...blunt instrument. I do not recall any T & C grinders in that game, however. As you were...

Great! Just when I was deriving some use from it, now you disown it. I actually agree with, and applaud both points of view, as they are equally valid. Sometimes the written word fails to convey the nuance in which all significance is couched.

Speaking of which, anyone want to buy some couches?

I refer to your word "TRIVIAL AMOUNTS OF MONEY"
And I am sure some people would take offence. I did....
What you consider trivial others may not.
Does that make them a lesser person?
Does that mean they can't look for the cheapest alternative to make a bid?
Or maybe people on lesser incomes don't deserve to have nice machinery in the shed for our hobby.

I tend to agree with a couple of other members that it is quite sickening being spoken down to on a constant basis, I come to this site to catch up with many many friends I have made through this site, I come here to glean knowledge from all who are willing to help.

But I'll be damn'd if I want to come here to be belittled at every post or opportunity that presents itself. I don't believe any one member here is better than another, We are all entitled to our opinions, And if you can't handle that then just don't comment.

    ENOUGH SAID I HOPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PS.
Thanks UEEE but I'm not going to hold my breath mate..lol

I wouldn't normally link to a uk auction, but I was so impressed with this surface plate that I thought someone here might like to get a container load together and import from the UK...

    6' x 12' Granite Surface Plate - Asset #wta15912 - GoIndustry DoveBid

I notice the floor has what looks like a cut out (well a line) around the table, Anti vibration foundations or something?

I trust this message has been couched in terms suitable for GQ, if not I'll go find another couch

    Regards
