Default Making rivets with a lathe

Found this video showing how to make your own rivets, using a lathe.

Kryn I reckon they would be ok for clevis pins but don't think that i would trust the friction formed head for a rivet.
I would like to know what materiel he used for the anvil, if that is what its called?

I figure that the video explains itself well, you need to remachine the form every two or three rivets, and you need to tighten the drill chuck by belting the key with reasonably heavy hammer (wheel wrench by the look of it). Definitely stressing a lathe more than it was designed to handle, possibly OK if you have an old machine too clapped out to do any accurate machining with, but not a well regarded task for a precision machine that you have obtained after desiring it for quite a few years.

I understand that this is how to make rivets with a lathe. I am sure that looking real hard there must be a video showing how to make rivets with a pushbike, or a tomato stick. All valid points.

If anyone is interested, here is how you make a real rivet. Strong and cheap with almost zero technology.

Almost zero ... yes, the forge can be replaced by Oxy acetylene, oxy propane and even MAP.
The anvil can be replaced by (gasp seriously?) by a peace of rail ... there, I said it. Need to recover now ...

Once you get the hang of it, I bet you can beat that pitiful lathe pseudo rivet making hands down ...
