Default Mitsubishi clutched induction motor 0.5hp. Free to pick up

I rescued this from from certain scrapping thinking I may have a use for it one day... Maybe... .

But, happy to gift to anyone here that feels they could use it. Spins okay. Bearings feel good. I've not plugged it in.

    Pick up in Sandringham, VIC.

Indeed, apols - forgot to mention the thing it came off. It was a sewing thingo that had a tree of spools attached. This motor lived under the table and was operated by a foot lever mechanism.

I’ve got a similar one here that I also rescued with the same idea.

I’ve thought they might make a good clutched drive motor for a small lathe.
When in their original installation on sewing machines and over lockers they were very much an on/off clutch. Possibly part of that is the low inertia in the sewing machine - so I’m not sure if they would behave differently in something like a lathe that takes a bit more to spin up.

I had one on my small lather for around 40 years. They are terrific. Mine also had a brake when the lever was relaxed. So I had it arranged on a hinged bar across the bottom of the lathe stand. These motors won't start with clutch engaged, but you just keep them running and press the pedal when you want to turn. The spindle stops as soon as you take your foot off. Great arrangement.
