If I am working for a few hours and this is on the drill press, so I am drilling from time to time over the couple of hours I don't want to keep turning the VFD completey off to stop the fan. I have a Teco VFD that is on a belt grinder and the fan only runs if needed and only when the motor is being driven, otherwise whilst in standby mode there is no sound at all. If I have this worng and the fan only runs a short time after the motor has been spinning then I am much more interested!
Ok I have the picture now and I totally agree with you. I am terrified of electrical gear going up in smoke. The Delta fan runs whenever it has power to it so I click off the power supply. It takes approximately 6 seconds to reboot each time I come back to use it.

The fan noise does get a bit wearing if the VFD is left on and no machine in use so I fitted one of those temperature thingys that turn on at a set temperature. The only downfall with that is I now tend not turn off the VFD at all! I have a friend who was not convinced the noise would not worry him and I think he lasted a week before giving in.
