For Sale - Van Norman 12 vertical/horizontal combination mill - VIC
Another lovely old machine that's not getting used enough.
Van Norman model 12.
Manufactured early 1940's, with beautiful green "war finish" paint - apparently to reduce the resources required for production without compromising the machine's functionality (according to the plate on the side).
3ph, with separate spindle and drive motors. I've been running it off my rotary phase converter, but with its basic on/off fwd/rev switching it would be a nice easy VFD conversion with a couple of the Ecogoo 240-400v drives.
Gearbox driven powered X axis, but only drives in one direction. I haven't investigated further but given its a pretty simple mechanism I don't expect its a big job to fix - just needs the table removed to do it which I've never got around to...
I replaced the spindle bearings when I first got it. Old ones were the originals - date marked at manufacture.
Spindle taper is a specific Van Norman one, but R8 tools are easy to modify and plentiful so most owners just go down that route.
Comes with some original collets, but all imperial. Includes modified R8 shank ER32 arbor and collets, and some other arbors for face mills etc.
Also has the horizontal arbors and overarm support.
Includes a 100mm M&G vice with swivel base, but I'm happy to keep it and reduce the price by $100 if you don't need it.
Is mounted on a heavy frame that allows it to be easily moved with a pallet jack.
Approx 1000kg and I can load it onto your transport. Located near Geelong.
Asking $1500 ono

Hi Steve, I'll take the Mill, subject to how soon do you need it gone?? Asking because getting there to pick it up, might be a problem with the Covid thing. I won't need the Vice as I've already got a 6" one with a rotating table.
Regards

All good Kryn - definitely nothing much happening around here at the moment with the lockdown anyway.
Its OK to stay where it is for now as long as you pick it up reasonably promptly once the opportunity opens up.
