W.A. 40 Position Tool Holder
I bought a40 Position Quick Change Tool Post Set, E5 Series, 5 pcs/set from M&G Productions for my new lathe. That size was supposed to fit up to 400mm, 16", but when the lathe arrived the tools aren't high enough so i had to order the next size up.
This leaves me with the 5 piece set and 4 extra tool holders. I paid $455 +GST so $500 plus freight for the set and the extra holders were $75 + GST each so total $330 + freight.
Hoping to get the $500 for the lot so that's 4 free tool holders. Sound fair? All obviously unused.
A link to the item if that's allowed

So this would suit the Optimum TU3008G which has a swing over bed of 300mm?
Also what size tooling for it?Nev.

Thats right in the middle of the quoted range for that size. The tool height is between 32 and 49mm
I have 7 of with 20mm tool size and 1 with 25mm

Tempting, but I think one size smaller would better suit the Optimum. Would like to stay with 16mm tooling.

Can always use smaller tooling but what seems more critical is the width of your compound. It wants to be close to the diameter of the toolholder base to put the load over a greater area.
Don't get caught like i did. The smaller size is up to 300mm so pay to double check the tool height.

Width of compound is a touch under 80mm.

The diameter of the round toothed block where it sits on the top slide is 70mm. In my mind that's the right size for my old lathe, 13", which was about the same as yours. I have lots of 16mm tooling and i will just use some packing to get the insert up to height. Once its mounted not likely to take it out unless it gets damaged. Any new ones i buy will be 25mm of course to suit the 540-300 size.
Did you measure your tool height from the compound slide, that's the first determinant.

3 specs you need to know before a seller supplies you with a 40 position tool post.
1, distance from the top of the cross slide mount (where the tool post sits) to Center height.
2, width of the cross slide (where the tool post sits).
3, hp/kw of the drive motor
sorry but if the seller doesn’t ask you this then they are just making a sale

They all have a rated power but i have no idea about the parameters of how they arrive at the numbers. Maybe a limit on how much the tool deflects under load would be my guess
540-200 is rated at 4.5Kw, thats the one i am selling
540-300 is rated at 7Kw, the next size up that i will use
540-100 is 2Kw, the smaller one
