Richard, do you know what diameter shaft those metal bearing caps are meant to hold?

They are a size PP206. We ( the AC industry) usually used them on fan shaft and the bearing usually had a rubber bushing around it to reduce noise transmission and vibration etc etc. Although I do believe you can run them with out the rubber bush by using a larger OD bearing.
I think shaft was in 1" range. But of course you could go 30mm without bush
