Default NSW. Elliott 921 Automatic Surface Grinder

I am reluctantly selling my Elliott 921 hydraulic surface grinder. I got it a few years ago together with a few other machines, but just don't have the room for it, and I desperately need to reclaim some workshop space.

It has automatic hydraulic longitudinal and cross traverse, and a separate coolant tank with pump. Table travel is 21" x 9" (533 mm x 228 mm). Max distance from spindle centre to table is 21" (533mm). The handwheel graduations are metric. It comes with a 500 mm x 200 mm magnetic chuck, and a wheel balancing device. It uses 3 phase power, but could presumably be run from an inverter on 240V single phase. Weight is 1199 kg. It is a large capacity, solid machine. It comes with the original operating and maintenance manual.

I am the second owner. I saw it running in the workshop it came from, but I have not had it running in my own workshop. The equivalent Taiwanese/Chinese machines from Machinery House appear to cost $10,000 to $23,000. I'm asking $5,000 ono. Pick up in northern Sydney.

    Default Price drop

Now that lockdowns are over, I'm keen to sell this machine. Price drop to $4,500, or make me a sensible offer.

This machine is now up on Machines4U at $3990, negotiable for a quick sale. I really need to reclaim the shed space.

It's a solid machine, and comes with a large magnetic base, seperate coolant tank and pump, and a wheel balancing device. It would make a useful addition to anyone's workshop. I know I will regret selling it in a few years time when I move out to a place with a larger shed, but unfortunately it's got to go.

I'd probably buy it except the freight is a deal killer if the machine is over a tonne in weight. I've done the Sydney-Tasmania freight caper enough times to know that if I can't carry it myself and don't desperately need it, not to do it.

    Hi PDW.
In the manual, the net weight is listed as 995kg, gross weight is 1199kg. So the grinder itself is under 1 tonne. I'm not sure exactly what makes up the difference between net and gross, but potentially it is without the seperate coolant tank and motor/pump, and without the mag base? These items could be shipped separately, as could the cast guarding, balancer, spare wheels etc.

    You know you need it

There are 2 items left on my machine tool upgrade list. A SG with power feeds and a DS&G 17 in good condition with taper attachment. Or equivalent quality machine with TA & decent size spindle bore.

And I'll never find either in Tasmania except by an absolute fluke.

The mass isn't a problem for freight really, it's a problem for carrying on my 4wd flat tray. In theory the Rodeo could do it, in practice I'm not happy with that much.

I'll think on it a bit. All the coolant & hydraulic oils etc would have to be drained for transport regardless. Question is how much the b******s would want for freight this year. I'm not returning to Sydney until the various State govts stop with the stupid games WRT quarantine when people like me are fully vaxed & can get negative covid tests before traveling. It took me 6 weeks to get back home last time and nearly 2 weeks of that was in hotel quarantine DESPITE being vaxed & having 2 neg covid tests.

Yeah, I understand about the interstate travel. Keep in touch, I've just paid for another month on Machines4U, but if it hasn't gone by the end of the year I probably won't re-advertise until February.
