Default Free - various flat belting

The maintenance guys at work are cleaning out and there's a bunch of flat belting that's likely to end up in the bin.
I've no experience with flat belts, but if any of it is useful to you let me know. I haven't got time to work through and catalogue it but if you're after something particular I can pop over and have a look for it
Happy to post to you if you're not local - as long as you pay the postage costs.

    Hi Steve,

Leather belting or another type which can also use the carded belt hook type joiners? If so I would be interested in say 3 or 4 metres of 1"x 3/16" or metric equivalent.

    Thanks.

    Frank.

Frank, there's definitely some grey leather type on the second shelf down in the photo, but the lower shelves mostly look like a synthetic material with fabric reinforcement.

I'll have a look and see what there is in that size and let you know.

Thanks Steve. At the moment I am using an old piece of 1" x 1/4" belting with a 5" to a 2 1/4" pulley on a very short centres drive. It doesn't wrap around the smaller pulley very well.

If there's any left after people who need some, I'll happily give it a home.

I need anything that's 2.5" wide, my CVA is starting to split it's belt. Preferably something really soft and grippy feeling as it also regularly slips. Happy to pay postage. Minimum length I need is 91"

There's some 30x4.2mm leather look stuff here. Its a layered material already in a loop. No idea how it would cope with cutting/joining.
3 belts, each approx 1300 long.
Theres also some longer/wider ones approx 4m x 60mm wide, same thickness.

    Steve,

Many thanks for looking, but I think I'll give that one a miss, and put up with this one for a bit longer. I'll buy the right size leather belt if this one dies before me! As far as I remember, the current one is only the third belt since 1948, so leather does last well. I know the joiners work well in leather, and have the tool to use them. I also have heard that new leather belting is breathtakingly expensive. Oh well.....

    No worries Frank.

Ralph - will that 4m x ~60mm one work for you? Its pretty soft on the surface.
The more synthetic looking stuff seems quite hard so probably not going to help with your slipping.

Hi, I am interested in 50mm wide leather belting if there is any.
4 to 6mm thick would be ok.
I need one piece 2.4m for a Wadkin lathe.
Another 4m approx for an old Mortiser I’m hooking up to the lineshaft.
I have sourced fastners from a mob in the ‘Gong if anybody needs them.
I have also a spare fastener press or two.

    Apologies for the slow response.

I've pulled out all the leather belting to make sure it doesn't get thrown before I get back to it.

Ralph - PM me your address details and I'll get yours sorted.
Clear Out - pretty sure there's enough to cover what you want. I'll check on Monday when I'm back in the office and let you know.
Nadroj - at this stage there will definitely be leftovers

I also found a couple of boxes of joining clips, but no pins. I'll post photos when I get a chance.
Let me know if anyone specifically needs clips - either with belting or by themselves.

Steve, I'd be very interested in a 37" length of 1" wide belt for my 1945 vintage Hercus 9". The old belt is on it's last legs. With thanks, Tony
