Wanted / Looking for a small Tool Bit Grinder
G'day all, I would like to add to my workshop toys with a small purpose built bench mounted grinder to sharpen my drills, endmills and lathe tool bits. Looked at used T & C grinders but dont want to get involved with 3 phase stuff and unable to find 240v single phase stuff in the used department.
These grinders that H&F have appear to maybe what Im looking for. It seems all the U3 grinders found on the internet are made to the one design, in china by probably by the one mnufacturer and are marketed under several brand names with a great range of prices.
Has anyone got these grinders, are they worth the money and do they sharpen tooling as claimed?. Please let me know your thoughts, good or bad. I guess I'd have more chance at getting it to rain than finding a used machine eh?

Hi,
You may find the video by Stefan Gotteswinter will answer some of your questions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qHchpQeuho re the single lip grinder. The original Deckel units use W20 collets which can be difficult / expensive to find. Alan.

Caution - Collets
Hi,
If you are buying a older second hand machine, carefully check what collets it uses, especially if it doesn’t come with a full set of collets.
I have just bought an Italian Parpas D bit grinder and it uses a ”proprietary” collet. (I knew about this prior to buying it)
It looks very similar to the Deckel U2 collet except for 2 key differences.
The front taper is 20 deg not 17.5 and the rear locating diameter is 21mm not 20.
This is not an issue for me as the grinder was a super bargain and I have the gear to re-grind the taper to suit the Deckel collets.
Cheers
Piers
