I don't see a conflict but I do see an omission regarding the use of PMs in this post on B basic Market rules
https://metalworkforums.com/f223/t20...es-please-read
The major rule regarding the use of PMs is in this post in the all important TOU subform - which everyone should read but unfortunately they don't.
https://metalworkforums.com/f90/t202688-market-rules
Given its a major rule, it should be in both.
Major Rule.
All correspondence between Buyers and Sellers is to be done through the board. PM's and Emails are for exchanging personal contact information only once a deal has been done.

Buyers who only send a PM - be careful, if a dispute is raised the administration team will attempt to settle it by following the postings. Since there is no visibility of PMs available to the administrators they will not be usable in a dispute.
This is from the rules , see the conflicting statement in the 1st line.

Having gone and read through the rules, it appears to me that the major rule should apply. Thus this stuff should go to Michael G., who replied first through the thread.
If Piers037 in Castlemaine is able to pick it up on his behalf (because he's in SA) I'd be happy with that. The thought of packing it all up and posting it off doesn't thrill me - there's a lot of stuff and a lot of weight.
Let me know.
Simon.

If you can send me a PM with bank details, I'll transfer some money across. Alternately if you would prefer cash, Piers may be able to pay on my behalf and I'll send him the money.

It would appear that the major issue with this particular sale was the fact that the seller did not repost saying sold.
From what I can see from looking at a few for sale listings and additional posts , there has been NO I'll take it posts from a buyer only a Sold from the seller, this would indicate to me that these listings must of been sold by another means or could they have been sold by Private Message.

Everyone,
At the top of the Machinery Metalwork Market page there is a sticky from Ubeaut about Market Rules.
The "Click Here" link was intended to take you to the Full Market Rules sticky posted above the TOUs.
Instead that link takes one to the TOU's.
To make reading and understanding the Market rules, easier, I have posted a reply to Ubeauts sticky which gives a link to those Full market Rules which includes the clarification about PMs.
To me, those rules are crystal clear.
Anyone who posts there, from this point on, will get the nudge to read the Full Market Rules.
If a poster in the Machinery Metalwork Market is so reminded and then fails to heed those rules, they are then up that well known creek without a paddle, when it all turns pear shaped.
Case closed
Grahame

Thanks to the kindness of some forum members volunteering to help with transport, I hope to be looking through this lot in a few week's time. At this stage my plan is to work out what is there and then re-list* or distribute what I don't want. I have enough duplicates as it is, so I don't need more (I'll probably try and move some of those at the same time). My main interest is filling out some of the gaps in the sequences of taps and reamers that I do have.
I'm sorry that this sale has been under such controversial circumstances, so if anyone has spotted something from the photos that they have been looking for or think there is an off chance that a specific item they have been chasing is hiding in there, I'm happy to receive PM's or emails - but for specific items only; I'm not interested in a blanket "I'd like all the drills" or similar. I already have a PM from someone chasing some particular sizes of reamer and I'm good with that as I have something specific to look for.
Aaron, I don't want to go halves with you as at the moment I don't know precisely what is there but certainly if there was something there that caught your eye, feel free to let me know.
Michael
*I'll try and bear you guys in the West in mind with respect to time.

I deal with these sort of issues every day. Its interesting reading, and if the rules get some more clarification as an outcome, then thats great.
Good that its resolved.
and Michael was the first post (after the seller posted the item) to say "I'll put my hand up for them." that in my book says "I'll take em"...
Cheers

so does this mean that what we talk about in our private messages.
Is governed by some rules.
what if i would like to talk about more than my contact details in the pm?

That's not how I see it.
You can talk about whatever you like that is legal in a PM but if you send up selling something advertised on the market place and it is found out, I would expect some consequences.
You could of course do a deal via PM and then withdraw it from sale - maybe once - even twice, but that won't last long either.
