Default ER chucks for 260/9" Hercus

Anyone who may be interested in these please note the the accuracy on your machine can not be guaranteed and you may need to re cut the 8 degree collet taper, machining allowance for this has been allowed for if required.

I bought one of Peter's ER40 collet chucks for my Hercus 260. It had 0.1mm of runout which was easily removed by taking a skim cut with a HSS boring bar. I set the compound to the correct angle by running a DTI along the inside of the chuck and adjusting the angle until the DTI showed no movement. I confirmed the compound setting by turning a piece of stock to 8mm to ensure concentricity, slipping an 8mm collet onto it and checking with a DI.

I'm very happy with the chuck. I no longer have any limitation on stock length and no more stuffing around with a draw bar.

    Hi,

I bought one of Pipeclays ER32 chucks a couple of months ago for my 260ATM. I've used it a few times now and it works great. Just letting Pete know.

    They look great!

Do you also make a pin spanner for tightening the ER nut against the chuck?

Just use the collet spanner, you can make a purpose pin spanner, but the collet spanner works fine.
You may find that a 2nd spanner is beneficial as you can hold the chuck with one whilst you release the nut.
