Looking for something else I found an old White Knight paint chart, sent the photo to my mate, now have a litre of Marine Blue.

    More questions.

The WhiteKnight paint tin say to clean up with Rust guard solvent or turps, is this what I thin it with?

To paint a galvanised surface it says to etch prime first.
I have a tin of HiChem Super Etch Primer, the tin says to clean up with Superglow multipurpose thinners, can I use turps?

I got a couple of litre of Dulux Metalshield Epoxy Enamel, they say to use Metalshield Brush Thinners or Metalshield spray thinners, once again is turps compatible.

    Hi Mark,

I would test for compatibility by using a dab of paint on a lolly stick and seeing if the turps dissolves it without clotting !

If it's enamel you can thin with enamel thinners, turps or petrol, but check with a small amount first and don't mix the paint thinned with different thinners together. Paint don't stick to galvanising to well, there are a number of treatments for galvanising from hardware stores, or, you can just wipe down with white vinegar first. Etch primers are for bare metal, not necessarily for galvanising. Most paints don't require etch primers these days.

You should always clean the surface to be painted with wax and grease remover first and don't touch with your hands after cleaning.

Enamel is not the best choice of paint, difficult to touch up unless Hammertone. I'd use 2 k, super hard and easy to touch up. Expensive though.
