    Hi Donny ,
    Welcome to our Metalwork Forums.

I deleted your mobile number as this forum can be internationally accessed. That means that scammers worldwide only have to read our forum and bingo, good old Donny is driven nuts by unwanted phone scammer attention. We highly recommend you don't put personal information on line, here or elsewhere.

Without doubt people from the Hercus forum will reply to you via the Hercus forum in due course, if the parts are available. There are many Hercus machine owners and enthusiasts here and will welcome you and offer their input and experience.

There is a great mob here who go out of their way to assist new guys.

    Most metalwork interests are catered for. To have a looksee do the following;

To navigate our Forums click on the FORUM box at the LH top of the page.

A drop down menu will appear and click on FORUM HOME which will give you a scroll down page with all of our various sub forums and other helpful things.

Our forum rules, the TOU's are on top and the rest is the sub Forums and help pages that make up our forum package. Please make sure to read through them.

    Hi

The forum member from Canberra 'Ueee' made some of the ratchet gears some years ago.. he sent me (and others) a new ratchet gear for the Douglas shaper .

Unfortunately he hasn't posted on this forum for a long time.

Ueee last posted in 2017 .

His business, 84 Engineering was manufacturing his range of linishers and and spare parts for a retail mob Artisan crafts or something like that.

Last time I sought belt grinder spare parts from 84 Engineering I was referred to the Artisan supplies mob who still had no stock.

I do not know for sure but would guess Ueee was/ is flat out catching up.

You might chase up his website and email him.

Given the time of year many of our members could be away. Be patient for a few weeks and some may reply. Its the silly season and Wuhan Flu has exacerbated the problems normally suffered around this time

Otherwise I am unable to suggest anything.

The link below may contain interesting information to the Hercus 270 shaper which had a history before Hercus acquired it.

Donny, I've taken a picture from the page Grahame's post linked to and circled the bits I think you are chasing. Can you confirm that these are them (and only them - you don't need the casting the pawl sits in for example...)

Measured my pre-Hercus, Douglas shaper ratchet wheel.
It looks identical to my 270's, but I can't get close enough to measure it.

I'm guessing you have a (Hercus) shaper that is missing these parts - question is do you have or have access to a lathe ?
With these two machines you could maybe make the bits AND gain valuable experience yourself along the way, perhaps ?

Yes, it could be made on a shaper, if you also have an indexing spindle or similar for the 24 grooves.

For 24T the “similar” could be as simple as a hex nut and a DTI.

Take a hex nut, or bolt (anything with a hex on it) and attach to the end of the part you need to index. It doesn't need to be perfectly aligned axially.
Support/clamp the part in vee blocks or vice etc.
Set a flat of the hex horizontal - make your first cut
Now if you rotated until the next flat was horizontal, then did a rinse and repeat - you'd end up with only 6 divisions, ie one per flat.
But if you only rotate the part until a flat is vertical - you'll end up half way between those horizontal flat positions, and therefore get 12 divisions.
So slowly rotate and cut each position - in the flat-horizontal, flat-vertical, flat-horizontal sequence. The DTI is used to sweep the vertical and horizontal faces, (or you can use any other method you want such as a level and a square etc).

    You've now got 12 nice divisions/teeth.

Find the half way point between 2 of the divisions - clamp the part in that position and align the hex so one face is horizontal.
Repeat what you did for the first 12 divisions - and you'll have 24 (or at least that's how it comes out in my head).

Plenty of low tech methods involving common tools or simple geometry to get these nice multiples of 2,3 and 4 divisions.
