Quite right. I got that link from Google. Obviously a dead web page.

This is what I have on my small lathe, it has run very reliably for many years.

    Quite right.

Before I posted about this, my preference was to install a single phase motor of correct power, duty and rpm, I took some bad info on the rpm and bought the wrong one (2840rpm dual pole). It was used and cheap so not much lost, I'll run it for a while I suppose, and maybe gear it down slightly on the motor pulley and in the mean time maybe a deal on the correct motor will turn up locally, or will have perhaps saved some pennies to buy a suitable VFD.

In the mean time I did some more research into running the original 3 phase motor off one phase, some interesting tricks out there, but a lot of stuffing about to get it just right so again, I'll put that idea aside, unless I chance across some suitable parts to go ahead with it.

I don't know anything about running a 3 phase motor off a single phase supply, but I would imagine the motor wouldn't run very smoothly (thus negating one of the advantages of a 3PH over a 1P motor). I would also think the motor won't make its rated power, leaving you with a very underpowered lathe.

M&G or aka Mag-Pro have this MT3 set for a reasonable price. While not having any experience with this particular item, I have been quite satisfied with all my dealings with them. Hard to beat for the money especially if you call in to their shop!
No connection other than being a satisfied customer.

I won't go into specifically how to do it but it involves recreating the missing leg using a combination of capacitance and induction.
