As you have already noted the angle for offset threading does not need to be exact, if you have a protractor use that against the chuck, face plate or spindle set ata bit less than your desired angle and line your compound up with that, you will need to angle the protractor blade down to get it to align with the side of your compound, don't even be concerned that the side of your compound is not machined.
