Default Hercus 9" A model headstock belt

    Gday,

Wondering if anyone can confirm which length of belt I need for the headstock pulley on my horizontal drive model A?

I noticed that the motor kind of bobs up and down as the machine runs and for a while couldn't work out how this was possible and then it occurred to me that the headstock belt must be stretched or whatever, because it would appear to be the culprit and it brings the floating rear pulley/motor assembly in and out as it runs.

I can see AMH website does list a few belts but none that are specifically for the horizontal belt setup, or at least that I could see.

    Cheers,
    ratters

If that's an "N" pattern vee belt drive, as it appears to be, the early parts manual says it will be the standard A35 belt.

Thanks for the info guys I ended up getting an A35 V belt locally and its the right one. I have some new headstock spindle oiler felts to go in at the same time while its all apart.

It's a curious design really, I like the ease of changing speeds with the lever but it does allow for this kind of unwanted reciprocating motion of the rear motor/pulley assembly.

Yes mine would be the 'N' pattern @allterrain50

    Hi Ratters,

If it still bobs about with a new belt, either pulley might not have the bore properly centred !
