Are these parts available in Australia?
Just curious.

I can see on Mal's site a set of helical headstock gears and a few other things for the SBGS26-075 but not the spindle. Hercus did offer a D1-4 camlock spindle for the 260 but I don't think the helical gears were in that offer.

Mal would be the best person to ask rather than I.
I own the machine in the photos which I bought in 2016 on fleabay. But I wasn't really looking for the D1-4 spindle etc. I was looking for a more conventional ATM Hercus 260 like the one I was learning to use in the surveying lab at work. By chance when I was looking for a Hercus 260 I found this one available so I bought it.

200 Price list
Here's a copy of a page from the 2000 price list where you can see the Camlock D1-4 spindle listed as an optional extra.
Snip Price list H 260.jpg
I have an earlier price list from 1988 that does not list the camlock

I don't suppose the helical gears would be of use unless one had the Camlock spindle as well, as it is bigger than the standard spindle.
Would you know if this means the headstock is also different to suit?

As far as I can tell the headstock is the same except the bearing housing is larger and perhaps a few other positions on the gear train but I'm fairly certain the overall dimensions of the headstock are the same.

Hi Boris,
I am currently in discussions with a fella in Sydney about purchasing his 260 with the D1-4 spindle as well so that is 2 of these lathes that are known of, apparently this lathe belonged to the ARMY originally.
Regards Steve

Hi Steve,
Ok, I know of this lathe. If you want to talk about it or see mine as an example to compare it to let me know. Or if you want some info regarding a few specifics let me know.
Cheers

The old fella was going to send me some photos of it when he gets a chance, have you looked at this lathe? what sort of condition is it in? I know that it had a fall and the back motor mount casting was broken but that has been replaced.

I have a couple of photos of the lathe now, I do wonder how many others were ordered with the D1-4 option at $890.00 + GST. that is 2 known of now, there could be more out there in workshops.

It's newer than mine, Steve.
See my serial number 20752

But that one looks to be in very good condition.

I know a guy who has lathe No 20781 so 10 before mine and that is a standard spindle and at the time he bought 2 of them with consecutive No's and the other was standard also so these were definitely ordered that way.
