    Hi Mark,
It took me months to set up my chinese lathe. A lot of reading and you tube and questions, and a lot of mistakes.
Still not as good as a toolmakers lathe but that's to be expected.
I came across this video a few weeks ago and wished I could have seen it when I was setting up.

In fact I'm tempted to run through the whole procedure again.
Not having an engineers level, makes me cautious though.

I usually shudder about the usual presentations on you tube, and often the long preludes and droning voice overs.

I found this "young lady" to present herself and her work in a very professional way.

For what its worth I think her set up is worth a look.

    Thanks, Brian.

I'm familiar with Quinn and her stuff from back in the day before YT. Like you, I find her stuff entertaining, informative, and clear. In my setup I've been following her lead, and that of "This Old Tony," another pretty good instructor (though a touch cheesy).

I figure it's all good learning, so I'll keep hacking away!

    Kind regards

To finish off this thread, I have a confession to make: I'm a bit of an idiot. Sad but true. You know how I know that? Just yesterday, after all that leveling stuff I figured out the little holes in the bottom of the legs could take leveling bolts. Doh!

So, off to the Big B this morning for a set of M10 leveling feet ($30), install them, and start the process again. First the machinist level. Funnily enough I can now get it properly level. Then run a couple of passes down a test piece, adjusting legs as needed and I luck out and find I'm at my measurement limit (around 0.0001") with much less dicking around.

Amazing what a small amount of thinking will do. Time to start learning how to do real things. The Hercus 9 is tuned and ready to go!

    Thanks all

    .. m.
