Hercus 9 C rebuild in Revesby!
My friend Barry gave me a pile of parts from his garage floor - most of an ex-school lathe:
(there is a bit more to the story. I gave him my Dad's old Hercus many years back, and he bought this one for parts - V belts, working apron, et c)
So, I spent:
- Wednesday, counting the parts and IMG_1365.jpg ( and thinking about how to build a stand )
- Thursday, hot dipping most parts IMG_1367.jpgIMG_1368.jpgIMG_1369.jpg
(also, my factory neighbour grabbed a file and dressed some of the wear on the bed) - Friday, wire brushing and painting IMG_1371.jpgIMG_1370.jpg (and thinking about the stand)
Things I'm still trying to work out:
- What to mount it on. I was tempted by just welding a few box section legs, or maybe a UniStrut frame.
Does it really need a full-size drip tray? - How to shim the headstock/main shaft.
- How far away the motor swing should be from the bed. I have a flat belt, but could swap it with a grippier rubber better micro-V belt, which would surely be a different length?
- Would it be better to wire the 3phase with a reversing switch? (instead of the mechanical setup)
