Default Hercus 270 shaper and cross feed issues

Hi IÂ’m hoping someone can help me with a problem with our shaper. The cross feed mechanism is not working.

You might get more response if it was put in the Hercus Section.

It can probably be fixed but we will need photos of the machine and the cross feed mechanism at the very least, so members can see what may be causing the problem.

Did it ever work or has it always been like this?

    Hi Michael
Thanks for your response. I’m a first timer in this forum so struggling a bit with navigating my way around.
The problem is an intermittent one where the spring loaded pin that engages the cylindrical gear riders over the gear without engaging.
I suspect the compression spring may be the problem. I will attempt to attach a photo/ video.

Yes there may be a problem with the load applied by the spring if a spring is actually in their to start with.

Is the intermittent problem throughout the feed range or only occurring at certain feed rates?

Does this problem occur when feeding in either direction?

Have you removed the feed engagement pawl and inspected it for wear and spring tension?

Is the gear attached to the cross feed shaft in good condition?

I'd take the pawl off, dismantle it, give it a good clean and lubricate it, as there may be a bit of crud/crap stuck in there somewhere. If the shaft looks OK, check the bore for evidence of scraping, this can be cleaned up with a brake cylinder hone, if need be.
Please let us know how you get on?

    Hi David,

There is no spring in there it works by gravity. I had exactly the same issue as you a few months ago. Take it apart clean up the crap thats making it stick oil it and put it back together and it will work.
