Angry My Hercus 9 Resto Start!

Finally got a nice cool day for a change, only 41°C.
So I thought I would start cleaning up my Hercus 9 and try and keep the missus happy.

    //metalworkforums.com/f189/t201...-resist-missus

When I bought her home ( The lathe) in March last year, I had to dismantle her to get her off the trailer and stacked the parts on an obsolete hospital bed, 6 month later I transferred to a different department at work so bought home my bench that I originally took there because it was too big for my shed.
For some reason the missus is keeps hinging about 2 lathes, a hospital bed and a bench on the back veranda, strange woman.

    Now the questions start.

1, Is there any degreaser that will not kill lawn?
    Hopefully available in central Aust.

2, After I strip it back to bare metal, primed with a kill rust primer, any further steps before painting?

3, Where can I get Vista Green paint from and how much is needed for a lathe?

I am going to Alice for a weekend in a couple of weeks time, so need to have my shopping list ready.

Couple pics to keep every one happy.

Now that I have the big parts of the bead and head stock cleaned up with citric acid, what would you do with the cracks and holes in the bog,
I have a can of spray bog, which will cover the cover the small small crazed cracks in third photo, should I get a can of bog for car panels and repair the damaged areas?

Sodium carbonate (foot baths salts) can be used as a degreaser. It's slow, but it won't kill lawn and can also be safely poured down the drain afterwards.

Thanks Bob, another one added to the shopping list when I go to Alice in a couple of weeks time.
I hope the missus isn't planning on doing any shopping for her self.

If you put bog/spray putty over the cracked/crazed areas, it might do it again, better off leaving it as is, loading it on trailer and bring it down to me.
You can't use 2 lathes at once.
Spray putty and bog should be fine to fill the cracks, or you could use a product called Highbuild, generally used on machinery or concrete mixer bowls, from memory about 20+ years ago, used to fill voids, bad welds, dents etc, prior to painting.

I think that I would be inclined to get a sheet of new material and replace the door. I doubt that you will ever get that looking right.

Looking for some hints on mixing car bog, it saw to mix 50 bog to 1 hardener.
I only need a desert spoon amount a time, my attempts at judging have been failures.

    Hi Mark,

If you put too much hardener in it will go off very quickly ! Not enough hardener and it will take much longer to go off. My take is to put less hardener in the mix, it also will give you more time to mix it properly.

    Hi Mark,

Now hang on a minute, is this the same lathe as you were hiding in the other thread ?
If so which arm did your missus break when she found out

I have two Hercus a 260 and a 9", I originally bought the 9" for the stand, I planed to sell the lathe, when I found that it was an ARL I changed my mind, since it was already in parts I start restoring this one.
