    Default Model A 9" - Correct Colour?

    Hi All,

    I was recently given a Model A - S/N VB A1753.

Based on S/N information I have seen, this would put production at around January 1947?

This lathe has sentimental value and I would like to do a back to original restoration for it to be a display piece, what is the correct colour for a machine of this period?

It is currently light grey, but suspect that this is a very neat over-paint of a very dark grey to almost black laquered finish? "hercus" would have been painted red along with the inside of the bed?

    Other originality questions:

This is a flat belt drive, so it wouldn't have a belt guard on the lay shaft to spindle drive, would it have had a belt guard on the motor to lay shaft V belt reduction? It currently has a home made sheet metal guard on this. (machine is not for use, so I don't mind if it has an unguarded V belt if that's the way it would have been.)

It currently has a washing machine motor driving it, but amongst the bits and pieces was a GMF "cadet" motor, I suspect that this is probably the original one?

What sort of on-off switch would of this originally had? (dewhurst lever type mounted up near the lay shaft or below the chip tray in front of quick change box?)

I'm also chasing a chip tray and cast iron legs for it if anyone a set that they would like to sell.

    Thanks!

check the inside of the covers that may give you a hint to its original colour im pretty sure it would have been a very dark blue almost black colour .
hercus changed their colours quite often it appears as each batch of paint or manufacturer changed so did the colour although only slightly

Are you after any parts that are missing? I have a Model C parts lathe here if you need a V belt cover for example.

    Send me a PM.
