I'd like to add a single phase VFD to my Hercus, since the lowest speeds are still too high for some jobs. Also want to add a quick change tool post, the Hercus post doesn't accept my larger bits in it. Going to check with KMS in Kelowna or, get one online from Busy-Bee in New West.

Probably need to upgrade the motor too.

I have the P type drive with single speed motor, 4 step V belt pulleys. The driving motor has a single v pulley. Could find or machine the two groove pulley the motor I have but finding right size large two groove pulley would be more difficult. I would prefer electronically controlled system though.
Found this on Amazon that could work with 3 phase motor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D76365G/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07D76365G&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=f0dedbe2-13c8-4136-a746-4398ed93cf0f&pd_rd_wg=c8Ihv&pf_rd_r=9N3JFTZGJMY8GMHVB12C&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=5n0vk&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=113f9c95-f481-11e8-8944-4f5e302c649a

I could use these lathes when I was still working.

Gday Mal, feel free to add mine too. ATM 19975. In very nice condition, looks like it was barely used and has come out of Tumbarumba HS. It came as a pair, my mate bought the other lathe there, a DGM 19976. His had been dropped on its face, but Ive helped him repair the various bits of carnage.

    Hi Steve,
I haven't started a list for those machines as yet, but when I do I'll put yours in. Don't remember the location of the serial number on the 3A and can't check on my one as the machine is up in Sydney until some time in 2019. I'm sure one of the members will volunteer the info.

    Purchased one today Mal,

A5212 coming from Springwood, NSW to Richmond NSW when the weather is cooler. Apparently purchased new in '55 by a machinist for home use (also in Springwood), bought by one bloke, then his mate and although filthy, appears to be in fairly good nick overall otherwise.

    Cheers,
    Rob

The serial number for the #3a and #1 tool and cutter grinders are on the right hand side of the sine table.

Using the solution to the German tank problem from WWII https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_tank_problem a better estimate for the number of Hercus lathes produced might be (20799 + 20799/2261) - 1 = 20807 unless we have more information?
