Hercus 14 x 40 lathe
G'day, I have a Hercus 14 x40 lathe.
Does anyone have any imfo on these?
Maybe a manual of somesuch?
I picked it up a few years ago, with heaps of tooling, chucks, face plates, etc.
I paid the princely sum of $250 for it all.
It's in very good condition. I'm only just setting it up now as I wasn't ready for it when I got it, but at that price I wasn't going to let it slip by.
I had carefully stored it, so it hasn't deteriorated in storage.
Here it is in all it's glory!

Wow, that must be the bargain of the year (century). I don't know much about using metal turning lathes, but have bought heaps of tooling over the years for work, and I can assure you that the replacement cost of all those cutters etc would run into the $1,000's.
Hope you get it up and running without too many hassles.

OK, so why was the opening post with the photo deleted?

No conspiracy theories here .RC.
Sequence of events:
OP posts his new thread, because he is a new member it goes in to moderation.
It then needs to be approved by a mod
It gets approved by a mod
OP comes back and edits his post, because he is new it goes back in to mod
It then needs to be approved by a mod
Mod sees a member(you) complaining that it was "deleted"
Mod approves edited post (and keeps his fingers crossed that OP doesn't edit it again!)
Mod then spends more time explaining to complaining member that it is actually all above board and the censors are not around
Well, that is 10mins of my life I won't ever get back.

Sorry about that, as I'm new here, I was just mucking about pressing buttons, finding my way round, seeing how stuff works with this forum software.

Hello there.not being a ''smart a...'' storing your reamers, etc loose in the drawer not a good idea.Try to keep separated from each other as it takes the edge of them.Same with files individual separation.Constructive advice to a up and coming metal worker here. John.

Yeah you are of course right, I should know better, that's how they came here and I'm guilty of not getting around to sorting and storing them properly yet.
as for me being an up and coming metal worker as I'm at the tender age of 52, it's safe to assume that I've been in the engineering trade for a bit longer than up and coming
Mind you, if I saw any of the blokes at work do the same thing to edged tolling, I'd be giving them hell and buggery, so I better lift my game eh!

Hercus
Yes that's a beauty
Have you contacted HERCUS in Adelaide ? They might help you with a manual .
They are a engineering company these days ... they dont make lathes anymore but they do still have bits for their lathes etc.

Yeah, I contacted them and the bloke I spoke to said that they have nothing, in fact I got the impression that he didn't even know that they'd even made such a thing!
Mind you he was quick to answer, and didn't bother to ask anyone else.
So maybe I was unlucky enough to talk to the wrong bloke?
