    Yes it will fit.

If you are only fitting the Gearbox and Saddle only then NO it wont work with regards to feeds or screw cutting.

You will need to change the leadscrew as well.

Is the present lathe Metric or Imperial?

If its Metric you would need a Metric Gearbox and Leadscrew ,unless you don't care.

If you start to miss match the only problem you will have is with your dial graduations, not a biggy if your aware of it.

Do you do mainly facing work ( large diameter ).

If so then yes I would say change the Saddle, if not then just change the Gearbox and leadscrew and use your existing saddle.

The only problem or work required when using your original Saddle is that for normal feeding purposes you would need to change the 20 tooth Stud gear to a 16 tooth Stud gear, and when you are screw cutting put the 20 tooth Gear back on.

The only other thing to consider is if you use a traveling steady at present you will have to purchase a traveling steady to suit a 9".

Just thinking out loud at the moment, I can pickup a 260c cheap and was thinking of adding the gearbox and saddle from my model A for power cross feed etc, are the gear cutting gears the same as well. My model A is an Imperial machine.

If you have a full set of gears yes, other wise you may need a 40 and 56 as well as possibly a transposing set for metric threads.

I have done this, but converted the whole machine to imperial. It works fine. I used the gearbox, apron, leadscrew, leadscrew bracket, top and cross slide feed screws and drive train gears from my 9a and bolted them straight onto my 260. Use the 260 tumbler gear assembly as the gears match the spindle (less teeth on the 9" spindle).
I have the metric change gear set for the 9" if I need to cut metric threads. For me, quick change imperial threading is more useful.
The only modification required was the removal of some (very little) material from the inside bottom edge of the 260 end cover so it would close nicely up to the side of the gearbox.
The 9" apron is slightly shorter than the 260 apron, but the overhang on the saddle is nicely (enough for me) hidden by the 9" thread chasing dial assembly. I quite like the curved lines of the 9" gearbox and apron.
I love it! The entire swap over took about 2 hrs, including the side cover grinding.
I put all the metric gear onto my 9" and sold it as basically a metric 9c.
