    Default Hercus Lathes

Hi Guys ,I have just finished unloading 2 model A's into my garage so I thought I had better move from the other forum to this one, as yet I have not been able to get all the numbers off them but will do after getting rid of some of the grime and sorting out the parts as one is disassembled . I have a Tunnel attachment as well as a Die head and chasers which I intend to sell in the market place as soon as I can clean them up, any manuals or info on pulling these down would be appreciated.
I intend to get the one that is in parts restored first and then sell it as I only have need for one machine.
Merry Xmas and hope to keep intouch in the new year.

    Hi,

I've used this book several times:

    ● Rebuild Manual for South Bend Lathe 9" ABC & 10k ● | eBay

It is for Southbend lathes but Hercus lathes are copies so its nearly 100% correct. I think Mal may have a copy for sale as well.

    Cheers Ben

Is that a TURRET attachment and I would be interested in the die head and chasers ? What size is the die head?

    Default Hercus Lathes

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies on the other forum, at the moment I have enough manuals to get me started on stripping down both lathes but I,m sure I will need help somewhere along the line. LOCALELE yes I did mean turrent and the Die Head is a 3/4" made by Sutton . If anybody can help with instructions on disassembling the turrent and the Die head as I would like to clean them and see what condition they are in before selling. I have just had surgery on my elbow so the good wife has banned me from the garage untill after Xmas so everything will have to wait till then.
I will advertise one lathe and other parts on the Market place when they are all cleaned up and I decide what I wish to keep.
    Merry Xmas

Post a few pictures if possible of the lathes as it makes for a better post when we can all see what is going on.
The 3/4" die head is quite big for these lathes and I am wondering if it will clear the turret to index around.

    Default Turrent & Die head

Hi, Spent the last few hours of 2012 cleaning the turrent and thread die, decided to leave them bare metal so if anybody buys them they can pick their own color.
I want to sell them both but can find no adverts in previous threads as to what would be a fair price , if anybody can help I will put them in the Market Place tonight.
The thread die comes with about 25 chasers , as yet I haven,t got the sizes but will 002.JPG001.JPG ort that out when I advertise them.

The turret looks very stylish in its design. They are a very handy piece of kit and if it were mine I wouldn't rush to sell it until you try it out.
I can't wait to see the photos of the die head .

    Default die head

The die head needs a lot more cleaning and I will leave the inside to someone else who knows how it works . The list of chasers is as follows,
    2x3/8 BSF, 4x3/8 3x1/8 BSP, 1/2 3/8 2x7/16 NC.1/4 1/8 NFTF, 3/8 GAS
    3x3/8 2x5/8 WHIT 5/8 UNF 2x 5/8 1/8 5/16 2x7/16 NC 5/8 UNF.
As can be seen in the photo they are still in the original boxes but they need a good clean up, most seem as if they have never been used.

The turret attachment is listed by a retailer for $695,cant see why you couldn't ask $500 plus each here plus postage for the ones you have, the vultures may wait to see if you drop the price.

You may even be better off listing on ebay as some people will take it well above $500.

With the Die head and Dies around $220 to $300 plus post.

Thanks Pipeclay. I will put them both up in the market place tonight, seeing that they both came as extras with the Lathes I don,t have to ask a lot for them . If I get enough to purchase the Items I need to bring the second lathe up to scratch I will be happy.
    Cheers Mike
