I got a problem
Hi Fellas, it looks like you blokes know a bit about Hercus lathes.
I can do anything with wood but have no hope with metal. And she who has since divorced me, let me buy all the tools I ever wanted, I thought I was in heaven, turns out I think she was using my workshop to build her collateral.
Anyway to the problem at hand
I got hold of a Hercus lathe, (wanted to play merry hell), the poor thing is only gathering dust, it's not being used and I really would rather have the space back on the floor and let someone else have the pleasure of owning this lovely machine
Its an ARM model. that's what it says in the model number section of the plate on the front
I have no idea what it's worth, I really don't even know how to describe it
Any help would be appreciated, especially with description and price
It seems to be all pretty tight, it's got a 3 ph motor on it but looks like a single ph could easily be exchanged. It's got all its bits with it, chuck, spanners, tool holder, tail stock, I'm told it can cut threads and one can somehow move the main part backwards and forwards with no hands. God only knows what that means.
Anyway I want to list it for sale but I need your help
To save typing if you txt me on 0419348083 or call, I'll gladly phone you back.
Thanks in anticipation of some help. Best wishes AA

Put the lathe in the living room!
Hi AA,
What a rotten decision to have to make. Are you sure you can't keep it?
With your missus out of the way, there's no reason why the Hercus can't sit proudly in the middle of the living room, or where ever you like.
Mine does, albeit in pieces.
As soon as you sell it, something will go wrong with one of your woodworking machines, and you'll have to get someone else to turn up a shaft etc, etc.
If you must sell it, some good quality photos would help us to advise on your lathe's worth.

Photos
Thanks Ken
and thanks Dave for the PMs (I was thinking round that)
I got out there today and took a heap of photos, the ol girl smiled I think. There's a chance she might get back to work
I won't load up all the photos I took but here's a few . They should give an idea.
I guess once you give me an opinion, I then will list in in the Market Place under metal work
Anyway have a look at these

I'll buy it!
The lathe looks pretty original, and assuming it's not worn out, I'll go out on a limb and offer you $275.40 providing you can deliver it.
How does that sound?

Gee Ken you're really letting your cheque book get carried away
I take it that you are either joking or being insulting.
Only you know !!!!
and such a precise figure $275.40 including delivery.
I'd get that from the local scrap metal man
I think I've said enough
I'll place it on the open market and let the market show
Cheers mate.
No need for anyone else to add to the comments, I've decided the course I'll take and the price I'll ask. Thanks, AA
