Pulleys... Paint or no paint?
Hi all,
I am currently doing a restoration of my sheraton 9" lathe and am just wondering what to do with the pulleys, I have used rust converter on them and have got them back to clean steel.
If I leave them as is they will probably end up rusting again over time. I was thinking of giving them a few light coats of black.
Thoughts?
Thanks

You should paint them, first with undercoat, then top coat. Do not paint the pulley grooves, the OD, or the bore. Just mask these off.

If you wanted get your old B belt, see where it sits and paint everywhere on the OD except where the belt touches.

I cant comment on Sheraton but almost all of the Hercus pulleys that I have seen were painted.
